McMillan Woods Global Awards 2024 Honours Industry Leaders And Lifts Autism Awareness With A Possible RM300,000 NASOM Donation
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 18 October 2024 – The McMillan Woods Global Awards 2024 made a significant mark last night, not only by celebrating excellence in various industries but also through a meaningful philanthropic contribution. McMillan Woods Global (MCMWG) announced a possible donation of RM300,000 to the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), a gesture aimed at alleviating the financial challenges faced by the society. Both our supermodel, Amber Chia and songstress, Winnie K, acted as our CSR ambassadors to making a meaningful impact and bringing hope, resilience and a brighter future to those in need. In the minds of our ambassadors – everyone deserves a chance and together we can make a difference!
During a recent meeting with NASOM’s management, MCMWG learned about the society’s financial difficulties, which have hindered its ability to provide essential services to individuals with autism. In its urgent response, MCMWG decided to prioritise this donation as the highlight of this year’s awards. The donation was officially announced by Dato’ Seri Dr. Raymond Liew, Founder President of McMillan Woods Global, to Julian Wong, President of NASOM.
Liew emphasised the importance of giving back to the community, “At McMillan Woods Global, we believe that success is measured not just by business achievements, but also by the positive impact we make on society. NASOM has done remarkable work for the autism community and we are honoured to contribute towards their mission. This donation is just the beginning, and we hope it inspires more organisations to step forward and support those in need.”
NASOM, founded in 1986, provides education, intervention programmes and support services to individuals on the autism spectrum. The society’s work is crucial in helping families navigate the challenges of autism, a developmental disorder that affects communication and behaviour. As the prevalence of autism increases – affecting approximately 1 in 160 children globally, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) – the need for resources and support grows. NASOM’s mission has never been more important, and this donation will help it continue providing life-changing services.
The Chairman of NASOM, Julian Wong, in expressing his gratitude for the timely support, said, “This possible contribution from McMillan Woods Global comes at a critical time for NASOM. Financial constraints have posed significant challenges to our operations, and this generous donation will allow us to enhance our programmes and continue supporting individuals with autism and their families. We are truly grateful to both Dato’ Seri Dr. Raymond Liew and Ms Rachel Hsu Xin representing MCMWG for their commitment to making a difference in the lives of those we serve.”
The McMillan Woods Global Awards 2024 was also a night of celebration, with 33 individuals and organisations – made up of 11 McM Icons + 11 McM Masters + 11 McM Rising Stars; recognised for their outstanding contributions across diverse fields. Among the notable awardees were Australia billionaire, Dr. Georgina Hope Rinehart AO; Malaysia renowned entrepreneur, Dato’ Sri Dr. Shamir K.
